Reaping
The chopper makes mooo-ves on the field to ensure all the corn is cut up into small pieces. A truck follows close beside, catching and transporting all of the chopped corn.
Piling
Once full, the silage trucks dump all of the silage into a large pile, making enormous mounds that will contain the cow’s feed over time.
Packing
We pack the silage pile down by driving tractors over it repeatedly. Heavy weight and repetition are needed to pack down the large amount of silage and get all the air out. Tractors even use cement blocks for added weight!
Covering
It takes the whole team to put protective covers on the silage. Three different functioning layers cover the silage to ensure it stays preserved through the coming months. This final step is crucial in providing our cows the freshest feed. Because happy cows, make the best milk!.
