When Kristen learned about the origins of Be The Match (now called NMDP) during Morning Fresh Dairy’s farm tour in December 2023, it inspired her to share her story with us about her connection to the program.
“I had learned about the program from a young woman my mom met while she was looking for an apartment– she is half Japanese like me and I learned how difficult it is for people of mixed ethnicity to find a match and I signed up.
I was lucky enough to be a match for someone in 2017. I didn’t know much about her at the time, only that she was a teenager. One year following the procedure we both opted to exchange information and I was able to finally learn more about Victoria. A couple years later I got to meet her in person across the country, and I am so proud to say she is now a student at NYU.
I talked to her yesterday and she agreed how magical it is, how this all came to be and how small the world can be and was happy to share our story and picture with you.”
Kristen’s story is one of many inspiring donor stories. For more inside stories on donors and recipients, visit Be The Match.org
